CO₂ Adsorbers for Demineralized Water Storage

logo-torch
Project Feature
Supply and installation of CO₂ adsorption filters for storage tanks to prevent carbon dioxide ingress and protect water quality.
Production Process
Storage tanks are used for water supply/processing. Incoming air is purified through adsorption filters installed on tank breather vents to remove CO₂ and prevent contamination of water.
Problem
Carbon dioxide ingress into storage tanks can lead to water quality degradation and formation of oxidizing agents. Existing tanks require reliable CO₂ removal during air exchange.
Task
Provide CO₂ adsorption filters with high removal efficiency, robust outdoor design, and long-term reliable operation. Supply multiple units.
Current system component
Tank breather vents / breathing lines of storage tanks.
Temperature
Ambient temperature range: -60°C to +50°C.
Process temperature: within normal ambient range (no heating required).
Gas/Dust
Air containing CO₂ (with possible humidity) to be purified to prevent CO₂ entry into tanks.

Initial Data

Client Communication

Client:
Good afternoon,

Please let us know whether you can offer a filter in accordance with the technical specification attached. If so, kindly provide a commercial proposal. Thank you.

For air purification from CO₂, two sorption treatment units are required for each tank.

Configuration of one filter unit:
  • Filter housing – 1 pc
  • Chemical sorbent – set
  • Relief/vacuum valve with pressure sensor – set
  • CO₂ gas analyzer – 1 pc
  • Spare parts kit (chemical sorbent) – replacement set
Technical requirements:
  • Airflow capacity at inlet: up to 180 m³/h
  • Airflow capacity at outlet: up to 180 m³/h
  • Ambient temperature: from -60°C to +50°C
  • Overall dimensions (L × W × H): 1510 × 1240 × 1682 mm
  • Weight: up to 400 kg
  • Average CO₂ removal efficiency: 90–99%
  • Sorption capacity: up to 20 kg of CO₂
  • Manufacturing lead time: 50–70 days
The external part of the housing is made of a structural aluminum profile with aluminum sheet cladding. The flange and support frame are manufactured from stainless steel, and the deflector is also made of stainless steel. The internal lining of the housing is made of stainless steel and aluminum. Thermal insulation is provided using basalt fiber.

The filter housing must be grounded. If required, to reduce wind load on the ventilation pipe, an on-site support structure may be installed around the perimeter of the filter housing, with support provided by the water tank structure. The ventilation pipe below the filter housing must be thermally insulated. The filter housing should be installed at a height of approximately 600 mm from the top level of the tank to the lower edge of the filter housing.
Engineer Torch-Air:
Yes, we can supply a similar adsorber. The proposal is attached.

Purpose
The CO₂ absorption filter prevents carbon dioxide (CO₂) from entering the tank and the water by removing it from the incoming air. The filter is installed on the tank breather valve and can be mounted either directly on the tank or on the ground.
To prevent the formation of oxidizing agents in water, it is necessary to minimize the ingress of carbon dioxide into the storage tank. This is especially important for technological processes in power generation equipment, the food industry, semiconductor manufacturing, pharmaceutical production, and a number of other industries.

Advantages
  • High removal efficiency of up to 98%, ensuring high quality of demineralized water.
  • Easy maintenance.
  • Equipped with CO₂ concentration sensors that provide continuous monitoring of filter operation and indicate when maintenance is required.
  • Most components are manufactured in the USA, including the key element—the chemical sorbent.
  • Outdoor-rated housing with electric heating; internal components are made of stainless steel, and external components are made of corrosion-resistant materials.
Sorption capacity: up to 20 kg of CO₂ per sorbent charge.

Yes, this adsorber suits us perfectly. We need 6 units.

Proposed Solutions

Our client has been using these adsorbers since 2020. Since then, they have become our regular customer, and currently they have more than 30 of our CO₂ adsorbers installed on tanks in operation.

Based on the technical specification and operating conditions provided by the client, we proposed the supply and installation of CO₂ adsorption filters for each storage tank. Each tank requires two sorption treatment units, designed to remove CO₂ from incoming air and prevent its ingress into the tank and water.

The proposed filters feature a robust outdoor-rated housing, manufactured from structural aluminum profile with aluminum sheet cladding, stainless steel flanges and support frame, and basalt fiber thermal insulation. The internal lining is made of stainless steel and aluminum to ensure corrosion resistance and long-term reliability.

The solution includes a complete set of components for each unit: filter housing, chemical sorbent, relief/vacuum valve with pressure sensor, CO₂ gas analyzer, and a spare sorbent kit. The filters are designed for airflow up to 180 m³/h and provide high CO₂ removal efficiency (90–99%), with a sorption capacity of up to 20 kg of CO₂ per charge.
For safe and convenient installation, the design allows mounting directly on the tank breather valve or on the ground, with grounding of the housing and optional support structure to reduce wind load on the ventilation pipe.
The ventilation pipe under the filter is thermally insulated, and the filter housing is installed approximately 600 mm above the tank top level.

For safe and convenient installation, the design allows mounting directly on the tank breather valve or on the ground, with grounding of the housing and optional support structure to reduce wind load on the ventilation pipe.
This solution ensures continuous operation in extreme ambient temperatures from -60°C to +50°C, meeting the client’s requirement for reliable long-term CO₂ removal in outdoor conditions.
