Cartridge Dust Collector Description

FOEHN Push-Pull dust collector is developed for internal operation in a factory. The key different and advantage of these filters is that they do not eject air outside. This saves a considerable amount on heating during the cold season. It is particularly efficient for cleaning air of welding clouds and sprays while plasma metal cutting is taking place in the facility.

How It Works

To remove harmful mixtures, dusts, welding sprays, and clouds, a filtration and ventilation system is developed which entails two air pipes stationed at opposite walls of the facility at the height where the contaminated air forms.

From one gas pipe, the filter machine induces contaminated air and cleans it using a cartridge filter while it feeds the cleaned air back into the factory via the other gas pipe.

The contaminated air enters into the FOEHN Push-Pull via an air pipe or gas pipe into the dirty chamber. After that, the dust particles settle on a channeled cartridge while the clean air passes through the round cartridge and enters into the clean chamber. The cleaned air exists the filter with the help of a fan outside or goes back into the facility.

PERFORATED DUST CASSETTE
A perforated dust cassette can be installed in front of the filters so that the dust settles right down into the bunker and reduces the wear on the cartridges. More even distribution of gas flow along all the cartridges increases their service life and helps save on operational costs.

Modifications, Dimensions, and Drawings

A modification is a filter variation with a different quantity of modules. Adding modules entails a change in general performance, filtered air volume, size, and other specifications. FOEHN Push-Pull cartridge dust collector consists of one or multiple modules.

The recommended performance of a single module is no more than 18000 cfm and in order to increase the performance of the cartridge dust collector, it is required to install an additional module (see example in drawing below).

Filter Cartridges

We use a channeled cartridge as the filtering element. Thanks to the folded structure, the filter material is placed very compactly. For instance, a single standard cartridge of Ø12.8 in, 39 in tall has a filtering surface area of 178 ft² and replaces 15 - 20 bags.

The filter material entails a very thin (about 0.02 in), solid material with small pores. It is rated within the F7-F9 classes in terms of Eurovent’s cleaning quality standards, outperforming in this component materials usually used in cartridge filters.

The gas goes from outside the cartridge and enters and the dust particles settle on the outside part of the filter while the clean air passes inside the cartridge and leaves the filter outside.
The filter element becomes dirty every now and then and is cleaned by air impact. The concentrated impulse from the air valves shakes the cartridge filter material and the dust settles inside the hopper. Cartridge cleaning is performed without any halt in the filtration cycle.

The filter cartridges withstand a dust load of up to 2 ppm. A Cyclone will have to be placed in front of the equipment if the load is to get any more than that.

The Push-Pull System

Ensures air cleaning within the factory both at individual operation stations and throughout the factory, returning cleaned air back into the facility.

The Push-Pull system captures air, filters it, and returns it cleaned back into the factory.

The system configuration and package with different types of performance depends on the required air consumption and the particularities of the operation facility. Automatic control is implemented using a special panel.

In order to enhance air cleaning, install an additional special Coal type filter for gas elements after the cartridge filter is installed.

The performance of the filter, the length of the air ducts, the quantity of grids, and the consumption of air passing through them are calculated by Fakel's engineers based on the volume of the facility, the distance between the walls, the form of welding, the type and consumption of the welding electrodes, the brand of welded metals, and an array of other parameters.

Contaminated Air Induction: the Damper Plate

Our dust collector design helps our clients money by not having to replace the bags as often. Installed in front of the filters is a dust chamber so that the dust settles right down into the hopper and this reduces the wear on the cartridges.


The damper plate helps achieve a more even distribution of gas flow along all the filter cartridges, which extends the filters’ service life and improves air cleaning, since the load is even and allows for operational costs savings.

Dust Hopper and Discharge

In its standard package, FOEHN Push-Pull has a conical accumulator hopper for dust and a round gate with a manual gear for opening and closing or a box on wheels.

Additional hopper package elements
  • A shaker or a vibration device to prevent dust from sticking to the walls of the hopper.
  • Level transmitter.
  • Hoppers and supports according to the demands of your production site. For instance, for our client, we tailored the hopper for big bag discharge at their wood processing enterprise.
  • Worm hopper for continuous dumping of dust out of the hopper with a gate. Thus, the filter won't have to be halted in order to unload accumulated dust.

Captured Product Discharge

Discharging organization methods for the client to choose from:

  • The basic package features use of the manual method, which is done using a manual hatch which when opened manually and the dust unloads out of the dust aggregator into some volume or, when dust falls into a connected volume (box) without a hatch.The automated method: a flood gate or a double flap is used for unloading, often together with a worm transporter.
  • The automated method uses a gate or double dump for discharge, often along with a worm transporter.
The main distinction is manual labor which must be exerted to unload the captured product. The automated method can be combined with a production line and, for instance, the product can be returned back onto a conveyor belt.

Cartridge Dust Collector Management

Smart control automation ensures uninterrupted operation.

Filter control is performed using a controller or a remote control. This system works in a closed cycle, but it can be reconfigured depending on the client's needs.
We propose packaging the filter with a completely automatic control system, analysis, fire extinguishing, etc. In the standard package, a temporary controller is installed and it can also be packaged with a Siemens controller depending on your needs.

Pulse Jet System

The filter cartridges end up covered in “sticky” dirt every now and then, which increases the filters’ resistance. In order that the system works without interruption and without any variations in pressure, cartridges must be cleaned. The cleaning is done in the following way:
  1. At the top, there are air pipes in the clean air chamber which follow from the air cleaning diaphragm valves. These valves are installed on the receivers where the compressed air is located which is used for air impact.
  2. The air in these receivers is fed from the compressor. Every now and then, the valve begins operating, the air is fed into the tube through the valve, and then out of the tube it is distributed inside the filter cartridge with the help of nozzles.
  3. The filtered cartridge is shaken and blasted. Then the dust falls down into the accumulator hopper.
  4. The dust can be extracted from the accumulator hopper in three ways, depending on the technical task declared: a manual dust latch, a mechanical double dump, and an automatic gate. The standard version comes with a manual dust latch.

Pulse Jet Cleaning System Package:

Innovative development: air pipes system with a cleaning enhancer

They are either metallic or plastic. It all depends on the gas and temperature that the filter is cleaning. Nozzles are installed on the air pipes for more efficient cleaning of the filter element. A special cleaning enhancer is installed above the cartridge, which helps improve filter shaking and extends its service life.

Compressed air receiver
It is the receiver that accumulates air for air cleaning. If there isn't enough air, the degree of cleaning will fall, the wear on the filters will increase, and the filter's performance will fall, since the filter’s aerodynamic resistance increases. There is a connector on the receiver to the compressor or to the general factory compressed air pathway as well as moisture drain valve.

All valves are certified. Our valves are specialized for filter equipment air cleaning systems.

Controller
Regeneration system control is performed with the help of a special controller that configures the quantity of impulses and the frequency of the impulses.

Differential manometer (by order)
With a manometer, cleaning of the filter not only varies in time but also in terms of how “stuffed” the cartridge gets. When the pressure falls in the filter chamber, the manometer submits a signal to the controller to initiate blowing.
