Ion-Exchange Scrubber Description

“Ion BOREAS Compact” scrubbers are designed for sanitary air cleaning of liquid and hard spray articles in galvanic and etching production sites, as well as welding contaminations. The Ion-exchange scrubber is used for catching gas components and cleaning air in exhaust, induction, and circulation ventilation systems from a broad array of contaminating substances of an acidic, alkaline, and organic nature as well as various foul odors.
Straightforward maintenance and operation
The Ion-exchange scrubber’s design is done is such a way that maintenance via hatches and doors takes a minimal amount of time
Produced from different types of steel and plastic
We select the material depending on the chemical contents of the gas and the gas’ temperature. Stainless steel or carbon steel. Polypropylene plastic, polyethylene, PVDF, etc.
Optional unconventional design
The design, size, and productivity level can be modified depending on the client's wishes. It comes with a broad selection of additional package elements.

Improved Design for Customized Tasks From the Client

Smart Design: High Quality, Efficient Air Cleaning

Low aerodynamic resistance
The well-thought-out design of the filter facilitates the passage of a large air flow to be cleaned.
Dust load of up to 30 ppm
To increase the dust load, a cyclone or baghouse will have to be placed in front of the equipment.
Gas load of up to 1 ppm
There can optionally be more, but that will require size to be increased.
High tolerance of fluctuating loads
Stability in maintaining a high level of cleaning, efficiency, and temperature variations over the course of the scrubber's operation.
Minimal waste substances
The air cleaning process creates practically no waste. It doesn't get stopped up with a variety of substances. Furthermore, there is almost no water entrainment.

Fundamental Distinctions From Other Models

-1-
It connects to exhaust, induction, or circulation ventilation systems.
-2-
There are two design options. The dry scrubber: retaining contamination in a special ion-exchange material, and the liquid scrubber: in addition to passing through a special material, air is irrigated with liquid.

Spheres of Use

  • Coating works
  • Thermal metal cutting
  • Various types of welding works
  • Various types of welding works
  • Engineering and metal processing
Galvanic production sites, factories, and enterprises.
Processes: deoiling, scale bursting, etching, phosphatization, oxidation, anodizing, bichromating, processing in a chrome anhydrate, nickeling, chroming, coppering, tinning, concreting pewter-bismuth, zincking, anodization of zinc, cadmium coating, cadmium-pewter alloying, brass-plating, leading, gelding, silvering, palletizing, electrosmoothing, chemical polishing, and removal of copper, nickel, chrome, and pewter. Electrochemical production sites.

Substances Captured by the Gas Scrubber

Ion-exchange scrubber captures various dusts 0.1 µm in size or larger.
In order to capture smaller elements, we recommend various supplements, such as caustic soda etc. The supplements are selected on a case-by case basis depending on the air and gas mixture in the client's operation environment.

The Working Principle of Ion-Exchange Scrubber

Contaminated air enters the scrubber via a gas inlet flange. The contamination settles on a special ion-exchange cassette consisting of non-woven material. The cassette has a sponge structure which provides a basis to retain dust and other substances.

The dry scrubber is suitable if there isn’t too much contamination. If there is a lot of it, we recommend installing a wet scrubber. What sets a wet scrubber apart from a dry scrubber is that the cassette is sprayed with liquid designed to additionally neutralize harmful impurities, dust, and clean the cassette of contamination.

Specifications

The Specifications depend on the package elements. For each client, we create a project based on a detailed survey about the production site and the nature of the dust and contaminations.
Each filter can optionally be designed in a non-standard execution, depending on the technical task of the client.

Modifications, Size, and Charts

A modification is a filter variation with a different quantity of modules. Adding modules entails a change in general performance, filtered air volume, size, and other technical specifications .

The ion-exchange scrubber consists of one or multiple modules.

The recommended performance of a single module is no more than 23500 cfm. In order to increase the performance, it is required to install additional modules (see example in drawing below).

A filter can optionally be designed with non-typical size depending on the client’s technical task.

Ion-Exchange Scrubber Design

The scrubber captures sprays and hard particles on a filtration cassette with a partial liquid fraction flow via the draining pipe.

The “Ion BOREAS Compact” frame is rectangular with flanges for connecting to the gas pipe section. Located inside is a filtration cartridge out of a needle-punched material. A cartridge in the form of a wire frame with vertical pockets increases the filtration area. The filtration material is held by a pressure frame. The cartridge is placed into the frame via the upper installation hatch into specially shaped guiding grooves for simple and easy installation. The hatch hermetically closes with a roof and padding. Placed in the internal part of the frame are drain pipes (modification 1) or a hydrogate (modification 2 and 3) to collect and divert liquid sludge and perform regeneration.

The filter frame has gas inlet and outlet chambers which allows duct filters to be installed of any configuration. The gas inlet chamber reduces the velocity of gases for more efficient cleaning. Located in the filter are viewing/maintenance hatches for convenient cassette regeneration.

Regeneration (washing) of the filtration material is performed to achieve a pressure differential of 700 Pa. If no pressure control is implemented, washing once a day for 15-30 days is required. Cassette washing is performed inside the frame with the help of an installed atomizer diverting washing water via a hydrogate or removing the cassette from the frame and washing it in special baths. The washing water volume is 2.5-5.5 gal per ft² of filtration material.

Controlling the Scrubber

Variations of control equipment package elements
  1. Manual control: the most affordable and inexpensive method.
  2. Semiautomatic: control on a temporary relay, preparation of a solution, and manual pouring of the solution.
  3. Automatic, time-based control, or regulated cycle control, determined by the client. Automatic preparation and dosing of the reagent solution.
In the standard package, the scrubber is automated at a minimal level – with transmitter level, pump activation, and pH monitoring.
For a higher level of automation, we can offer you:
  • Automatic refilling and discharge of the reagent
  • Automatic reagent preparation
  • Automatic water activation/deactivation
  • Connecting the automatic contact to the controller and pH meter.
