Toluene vapors. Diluted mixture of nitroesters and nitrocellulose in the tank.
Initial Data
Client Communication
Client:
Good afternoon! Please provide a commercial quotation for a toluene adsorber for a toluene tank. The tank (dissolver) has a working volume of 3 m³. When toluene and the dissolving additive are loaded into it, air is displaced from the internal volume. We would like to install an adsorber on the tank’s breather vent. Filling/emptying of the tank takes place every 3 hours.
Engineer Torch-Air:
To calculate the adsorption filter, it is necessary to know the rate at which the tank is filled (in L/min or m³/h). It is also necessary to know the overpressure at which the toluene vapors are displaced, as well as the pressure rating of the tank. This information is required to calculate the maximum allowable pressure drop across the filter. We can manufacture the filter based on a special activated carbon. Once we receive the required data from you, we will calculate the volume of the adsorbent charge, and the total toluene capacity of the filter will become clear.
Client:
The tank is filled at a rate of no more than 6 m³/h and emptied at a rate of 3 m³/h. A sketch of the tank with dimensions and parameters is attached. We would like the pressure not to exceed 0.5 atm. Technical characteristics and parameters of the tank: Pressure, MPa (kgf/cm²): Working — 0.1 (1.0) Design wall temperature, °C: 30 Allowable operating wall temperature, °C: Maximum — 30, minimum — 18 Working medium characteristics (composition): Diluted mixture of nitro esters and nitrocellulose Design service life, years (max): 10 Number of loading cycles, max: 1000 Installation location: Indoors (heated area) Internal volume, m³: 2
Scheme of the tank
Engineer Torch-Air:
Proposal for the adsorber is in the attached file. Toluene capacity of the carbon: 145 g/dm³. With an adsorbent volume of 0.2 m³ in the adsorber, one filling is enough for 29,000 g of toluene. The filter resistance will not exceed 0.5 atm.

Proposed Solutions
Adsorption filter based on special activated carbon, selected specifically for toluene vapor removal.
Adsorbent volume 0.2 m³, which provides a toluene adsorption capacity of 29,000 g per charge.
Pressure drop not exceeding 0.5 atm, meeting the customer’s requirement.
Design compatible with the tank operating conditions (temperature range 18–30°C, working pressure 0.1 MPa).
A compact and easy-to-install unit, suitable for the existing breather vent configuration.
We always perform precise calculations and offer expert assistance in selecting the optimal dust collection or gas cleaning systems, typically completing this process within 1 to 2 days
