The Torch-Air OPTIMINATOR is a two-stage in-line mist eliminator for industrial exhaust and process gas. It is installed in the duct and removes entrained chemical droplets, liquid aerosols and the particulate they carry. The unit is a complete housing with a flanged inlet and outlet, two mesh pad stages, an access door and a drain, supplied in vertical or horizontal configuration. The first-stage pad takes the bulk of the liquid load; the high-efficiency second-stage pad captures the finer droplets that pass the first stage. Both pads are removable for inspection, cleaning and replacement. The mesh pad stages operate without continuous liquid recirculation. For sticky or high-fouling mist, a periodic wash-down system with removable spray headers can be added. An optional third-stage HEPA filter captures remaining fine particles. Filter specification and suitability are confirmed for the application. Housing and media materials are selected for the mist chemistry and temperature. Replacement pads for the OPTIMINATOR and for other equipment are supplied separately: see Mesh Pad Mist Eliminators.
Two-stage collection
The first stage removes larger droplets and most of the liquid load; the high-efficiency second stage polishes the remaining fine mist.
No liquid recirculation
The mesh pad stages operate without continuous liquid recirculation. Media and face velocity are selected to balance collection efficiency and pressure drop.
Vertical or horizontal installation
Vertical and horizontal in-line housings fit trunk ducts, risers and retrofit spaces.

Group;Contaminants
Metal finishing mist;Hard chrome, decorative chrome, chrome anodizing, plating-solution mist, cyanide-based mist
Acid mist;Sulfuric, nitric, phosphoric and fine hydrochloric acid mist
Alkaline mist;Caustic etch, caustic cleaners
Water and process mist;Rinse-water mist, water mist from tank ventilation and process exhaust
1. Entry. Mist-laden gas enters through the flanged inlet and is distributed across the media face.
2. First stage. Larger droplets strike the fibers of the first-stage mesh pad and are removed from the gas stream.
3. Second stage. Smaller droplets follow the changing gas path through the high-efficiency pad and contact its fibers.
4. Coalescence and drainage. Captured droplets combine into larger drops that drain from the pads to the bottom drain.
5. Optional third stage. Where specified, a HEPA filter after the two mesh pad stages captures remaining fine particles.
6. Exit. The cleaned gas leaves the unit and continues to the fan, stack or downstream control device.

The dimensions below apply to reference vertical two-stage configurations. Horizontal and three-stage arrangements are dimensioned individually in the project drawings. A — inlet / outlet diameter. B — housing width across the access door. C — overall height, flange face to flange face. D — housing length, from the access door side to the back of the housing. E — overall length, including the access door
Wash-down option for the units listed: one nozzle per stage, 3/4″ spray header, 5.3 GPM per header during a wash cycle. Dimensions in inches are standard reference sizes. Final certified drawings are produced for the selected configuration, material, flange standard, access arrangement and wash-down package; do not use catalog dimensions for fabrication or installation.

Final dimensions and connection positions are stated in the project drawings.
OPTIMINATOR Design
The unit consists of a housing with flanged inlet and outlet, two mesh pad stages, an access door and a drain section. Stage 1 is a removable mesh pad; Stage 2 is a high-efficiency mesh pad. When HEPA filtration is specified, the HEPA filter is installed as the third stage after the two mesh pads. With the wash-down option, each mesh pad stage has a removable spray header with one adjustable nozzle, connected to the wash-water supply outside the housing.
Operation and Wash-Down
The mesh pad stages operate without continuous liquid recirculation. A local or remote differential-pressure gauge indicates media condition and airflow restriction.
The access door and removable pads allow inspection of media, seals, spray nozzles and drains; each stage can be cleaned or replaced separately. Replacement pads are supplied to order.
With the wash-down option, an operator starts a short wash cycle when differential pressure or the maintenance schedule indicates cleaning, or a timer or PLC opens the wash valve at set intervals without removing the media. Brief cycles limit the volume of wash water to be collected or treated, and the housing directs it to the drain rather than into downstream ductwork.
Wash frequency depends on contaminant concentration, stickiness, chemical crystallization, airflow and media density.
