Wet Scrubber Description

The “TORNADO-RP” wet scrubber with a vertical mass-exchanging column with random packing inside (Raschig rings, Pall rings, Intalox rings, Torch-Air rings, etc.) and an automatic irrigation system. Packings of this type are cheaper than structured ones but require larger dimensions and a more powerful fan.
It is designed for wet gas cleaning. This filter complex has been famous worldwide for over 50 years and has earned itself a good reputation as a reliable cleaner of dust, smoke, acid, alkalis, and mixtures of them.
We supply them both as packages and separate parts of the “TORNADO-RP” complex.
The cleaning efficiency rate for dust at least 0.5 microns in size is 99.99%. Efficiency depends on the type of dust, temperature, and moisture.

Substances Captured by the Gas Scrubber

Wet scrubber captures various dusts 0.1 µm in size or larger.
In order to capture smaller elements, we recommend various supplements, such as caustic soda etc. The supplements are selected on a case-by case basis depending on the air and gas mixture in the client's operation environment.

The Working Principle of TORNADO RP Scrubber

How does a TORNADO RP work
The “TORNADO-RP” wet scrubber has a layer of packings, which are located in support distribution grids. The packings have a branched surface which creates a contact phases area that gas passes through and at the same time they are irrigated by water or another solution. During operation, the “TORNADO-RP” packing is in the form of a dense layer. Raschig rings, Pall rings, Intalox rings, Torch-Air rings, as well as other plastic and resin constructions can be used as the packing.
Contaminated air enters the acceptance chamber. Then, following up to a flow of washing liquid, the gas and liquid emulsion subsequently continues through the fixed-bed layer where the gas component and the liquid phase connect. Subsequently, the liquid-gas mixture enters the volume of the droplet eliminator where they separate from each other. The liquid phase (dirty) flows into the circulation capacity (for subsequent use or removal) and the cleaned gas goes into the drop separator along with the liquid drops being carried away. After that, the clean gas (air) exits the “TORNADO-RP” to the outside.


The Specifications depend on the package elements. For each client, we create a project based on a detailed survey about the production site and the nature of the dust and contaminations.
Each filter can optionally be designed in a non-standard execution, depending on the technical task of the client.

Modifications, Size, and Charts

A modification is a filter variation with a different quantity of modules. Adding modules entails a change in general performance, filtered air volume, size, and other technical specifications .

The wet scrubber consists of one or multiple modules.

The recommended performance of a single module is no more than 30000 cfm. In order to increase the performance, it is required to install additional modules (see example in drawing below).

A filter can optionally be designed with non-typical size depending on the client’s technical task.

Scrubber Design

The “TORNADO-RP” entails a vertical column with supporting grids inside with packings located on them. The irrigation system consists of one or multiple stages with nozzles installed inside the frame.

Controlling the Wet Scrubber

Variations of control equipment package elements
  1. Manual control: the most affordable and inexpensive method.
  2. Semiautomatic: control on a temporary relay, preparation of a solution, and manual pouring of the solution.
  3. Automatic, time-based control, or regulated cycle control, determined by the client. Automatic preparation and dosing of the reagent solution.
In the standard package, the wet scrubber is automated at a minimal level – with transmitter level, pump activation, and pH monitoring.
For a higher level of automation, we can offer you:
