TORNADO RP Mobile Wet Scrubber

Self-Contained Packed Bed Scrubber on a Pallet-Size Base

A self-contained packed bed scrubber for pilot testing, temporary emission control and compact permanent duties.

Mobile Wet Scrubber Description

TORNADO RP Mobile is a self-contained version of the TORNADO RP random-packing wet scrubber. The packed column, recirculation tank, pump, irrigation piping, exhaust fan and control panel are assembled on one pallet-size base, so the unit can be brought to an emission source, connected and started without a foundation or field assembly.

The cleaning process is the same as in the stationary TORNADO RP. Contaminated gas passes through an irrigated bed of random packing, soluble and reactive gases transfer into the scrubbing solution, and a droplet eliminator removes entrained liquid before the gas leaves the column.
Typical uses are pilot testing before a full-size scrubber is designed, temporary emission control during maintenance or short campaigns, and compact permanent duties where floor space and installation time are limited.
Self-contained unit
Column, tank, pump, fan and controls arrive as one assembly. On site, only the duct, power and water connections are needed.
No foundation required
The base stands on a level floor or slab rated for the operating weight. Anchoring is added only where site conditions call for it.
Moves between sources
The pallet-size base is handled by forklift or pallet jack once the tank is drained, so one unit can serve several locations.

Benefits of the Mobile Design

Built for Changing Locations

Run the unit on real exhaust to record pressure drop, irrigation rate, solution consumption and outlet results before a full-size TORNADO RP is sized.
Viewports in the column, a flow meter on the irrigation line and a level tube on the tank show wetting, flow and liquid level at a glance.
Thermoplastic column, tank and piping are suited to acid, alkaline and other corrosive gas streams.

Transport and Set-Up

1. Drain and secure
Drain the tank and secure the panel, piping and loose parts before the unit is moved.
2. Move
Lift the unit by forklift or pallet jack; for road transport, strap it down on a truck bed or trailer.
3. Place
Set it on a level surface rated for the operating weight, close to the emission source.

4. Connect the gas line
Connect the inlet duct (flexible duct for temporary installations) and route the outlet to a safe discharge point.
5. Connect utilities
Connect power to the control panel, make-up water and a drain or spent-solution collection point.
6. Start up
Fill the tank, start the pump, set the irrigation flow on the flow meter, then start the fan.

Use Options

-1-
Pilot test unit
A trial on your real exhaust to confirm the scrubbing chemistry, irrigation rate and outlet results before a full-size scrubber is designed.
-2-
Temporary or backup service
Gas cleaning during maintenance of the main system, start-ups, short production campaigns or work at changing locations.
-3-
Compact permanent unit
A small, self-contained scrubber for a single tank, line or laboratory exhaust where space and installation time are limited.

Spheres of Use

The mobile scrubber is used where gas cleaning is needed quickly, temporarily or at changing points of a plant.
  • Pilot testing and process trials
Confirm chemistry, irrigation and outlet results on real exhaust before investing in a permanent system.
  • Maintenance and temporary control
Keep emissions under control while the main scrubber is serviced, or during start-ups and short campaigns.
  • Tank venting and chemical transfer
Acid and caustic fumes from tank cleaning, filling and transfer operations at different points of a plant.
  • Laboratories and small process lines
Etching, plating and pickling stations, small reactors and pilot plants with low airflow.

Industries: metal processing and finishing, chemical production, food processing and cold storage (ammonia), pharmaceuticals, laboratories. The unit is not intended for flammable or explosive atmospheres unless specifically engineered for them; dust-laden gas requires pre-filtration.

Substances Captured by the Mobile Scrubber

The scrubbing solution (water, caustic, acid or another reagent) is selected for the contaminant. Removal efficiency for each gas is confirmed during selection or a pilot test.

The Working Principle of the Mobile Scrubber

Mobile packed bed scrubber process sequence from gas inlet through irrigated packing and droplet eliminator to outlet
1. Gas enters the column. The integrated fan moves contaminated gas from the source into the lower part of the packed column.

2. The packing is irrigated. The pump delivers scrubbing solution from the base tank to the distribution system above the packing. The irrigation rate is set with the valves and checked on the flow meter.
3. Contaminants transfer into the solution. As the gas passes through the wetted random packing, soluble and reactive gases are absorbed or neutralized.

4. Droplets are separated. A droplet eliminator at the top of the column removes entrained liquid before the gas leaves through the outlet.

5. The solution recirculates. Liquid drains back to the tank. Spent solution is drained or neutralized, and make-up water or reagent is added manually or automatically.

Modifications and Sizes

TORNADO RP Mobile is built as one self-contained size for up to 2,000 cfm. For higher airflows, a stationary TORNADO RP is selected, or several mobile units are used at different points.

Column and tank are made of polypropylene as standard; PE, PVDF and other materials are available on request. Packing type, bed height and controls are confirmed for the application.

Scrubber Design

The packed column with inspection viewports stands on a recirculation tank that forms the base of the unit. A vertical chemical pump on the tank cover feeds the irrigation manifold and the liquid distribution above the packing; a droplet eliminator is installed at the top of the column. The exhaust fan and the control panel are mounted on the same base.

Controlling the Mobile Scrubber

The control panel is mounted on the unit. Three levels of control are available:

  1. Standard — local start and stop of the fan and pump, emergency stop and main disconnect; the solution is prepared and changed by the operator.
  2. Semi-automatic — timers for solution top-up and change; level control protects the pump.
  3. Automatic — pH control with reagent dosing, automatic make-up water and draining.

During operation, check the liquid level, irrigation flow and, for neutralization duties, the solution pH. Inspect the packing through the viewports for fouling or uneven wetting and clean the droplet eliminator as needed.

Before each move, drain and flush the tank; after transport, check fittings, valves and the panel before the unit is started.
