Definition and Applications

What is an FRP scrubber? Essentially, this comprises an air pollution control device. It funnels in and absorbs contaminants that are bad for people’s health and cause harm to the factory in which these chemical processes are taking place. The way they are treated is a special liquid that matches the environment, a specially concocted solution for the gases, fumes, and particulates in the environment. Packed bed scrubbers

Venturi
An FRP venturi scrubber features a narrowing neck design that forces gases and cleaning liquids together at high velocity, thereby increasing the absorption rate. These are effective for fine particles though they use a lot of energy.
Dry scrubbers
These use dry media like activated carbon to adsorb or neutralize pollutants. Commonly used in power plants and waste treatment, they come in handy for acidic environments.

Throughout the life and operation of the machine, users have to keep a watch on performance to ensure that it’s operating at the maximum level while staying economical in consumption. Here are the factors to account for in an FRP scrubber specification.
  • Pressure drop — measured as inlet-outlet pressure difference (in WC or Pa); keeping this at the ideal value means less energy consumed.
  • Fan & motor — defines airflow (cfm/m³/h) and motor power (HP/kW) required to move gas through the system.
  • Gas flow rate — determines the PP FRP scrubber’s size and capacity, measured in CFM or m³/h.
  • Pollutant concentration — the type and the volume of the pollutants present will affect which scrubbing liquid is chosen, the configuration, and at which efficiency level contaminants will need to be removed.
  • Scrubbing liquid flow rate and pH — a balance must be struck between utility costs and the amount of pollutant captured.
  • Gas-to-liquid ratio (G/L) — this impacts mass transfer efficiency; a lower one means higher-level removal but greater cost and vice versa.
  • Removal efficiency percentage of pollutants removed, requiring greater time in contact, liquid chemistry, and superior media design.
  • Pressure & temperature — this affects how well contaminants dissolve and the system performs.
